The Dalí chess pieces have a contemporary profile with sculptural, ring-like detailing that gives the set a distinctive character without compromising clarity in play. The name is a quiet reference to a more imaginative visual language, but the design itself remains controlled and well balanced. Handcrafted in India, the pieces are available in two combinations: lacquered boxwood with lacquered ebony, and lacquered boxwood with lacquered padauk.
The turned forms are fuller and more animated than in more conventional patterns, with layered bases and rounded transitions that give the pieces a strong visual rhythm. The knight stands out in particular, with a flowing carved mane and a more expressive profile than usual, while the bishop, queen, and king retain clear silhouettes that remain easy to read on the board. The lacquered finish gives both versions a smooth, reflective surface and sharpens the contrast between the two sides.
With a king height of 4.4 in, the pieces are weighted for steady handling during play. The king base diameter is 4.5 cm (1.77 in), and the pawn base diameter is 3.3 cm (1.30 in). These proportions work well on square sizes from 5.5 cm to 6.0 cm (2.17–2.36 in), depending on whether a slightly denser or more open layout is preferred. Additional queens are included, and the pieces come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
