The Vesuvius chess set combines the Vulcan chess pieces with the Cordoba chess board. The set brings together contrast in both tone and surface: natural boxwood and burnt boxwood in the pieces, and swirling ash burl patterning against lighter squares in the board. Despite this stronger visual character, the overall layout remains compact and easy to read in play.

Handcrafted in India, the Vulcan pieces are made from natural boxwood and burnt boxwood, with burnt detailing across the darker pieces and a glossy lacquered finish across the full set. Their rounded forms, carved collars, and ridged knight give the pieces a distinct profile, while the weighted pieces support steady handling during play.

With a king height of 3.75 in, the king base diameter is 4.1 cm (1.61 in), and the set suits 5.0 cm (1.97 in) squares well. Made in Spain, the Cordoba chess board measures 50 cm (19.7 in) on each side. Its high-gloss lacquer and ash burl figure work naturally with the burnt detailing of the pieces, giving the combination a unified and visually rich presentation. One additional queen per side is included.
