The 32+2 pieces of this splendid set are an accurate reproduction of the design with which Nathaniel Cooke and Howard Staunton changed the world of chess for good in 1849. The dark pieces are made of genuine ebony, one of the most valuable hardwoods. The light pieces are made of boxwood that has been given an “antique” look by carefully darkening the colour.

The chess board comes from Catalonia, near Barcelona, Spain and is manufactured by Rechapados Ferrer, a famous chess brand known for their high quality. The dark areas of the board have a very elegant “ebony tiger” figure, which gives it a lot of character and contrast.

Both the board and the pieces come with a 3-year warranty. The pieces also carry a unique and signed Certificate of Authenticity by the Design Chess Company.
