The Vesuvius chess set pairs the Vulcan chess pieces with the Cordoba chess board. The light pieces are natural boxwood, while the dark pieces are burnt boxwood. The Cordoba board repeats this light-and-dark contrast in pale maple and swirling brown ash burl.

Handcrafted in India, the Vulcan pieces have rounded profiles, carved collars, and a knight with a ridged mane. Burnt detailing gives the darker pieces varying brown and black tones rather than a flat colour. All the pieces have a glossy lacquered finish and are weighted for steady handling during play.

The king stands 3.75 inches tall and has a base diameter of 4.1 cm (1.61 in). The board’s 5.0 cm (1.97 in) squares leave clear space around the bases. Made in Spain, the Cordoba chess board measures 50 cm (19.7 in) on each side and has a high-gloss lacquered finish. One additional queen per side is included.
