The Galileo chess board is handcrafted in Florence, Italy. Its layered frame rests on four rounded legs, giving the board a distinctive architectural profile and raising the playing surface above the table.

The dark squares are elm root veneer, while the light squares are white maple veneer. The board measures 56 cm (22.0 in) overall, has 5.0 cm (1.97 in) squares, and is 5.5 cm (2.2 in) high.

The Galileo chess board suits chessmen with king base diameters of approximately 4.0–4.6 cm (1.57–1.81 in). Within the Design Chess collection, this includes the Earl and Vulcan tournament-size series.
