The Maharaja chess set pairs the Duke chess pieces with the Da Vinci chess board. Handcrafted in India, the light pieces are lacquered boxwood and the dark pieces are lacquered ebony. The king stands 4.4 inches tall and rises from a broad base to a domed top, while the knight has a pronounced mane and a compact, forward-leaning profile.

The king base diameter is 4.4 cm (1.73 in), and the pawn base diameter is 3.2 cm (1.26 in). The 6.0 cm (2.36 in) squares accommodate the broad pieces without crowding. Two alternative finials for the king are included, along with one additional queen per side, and the pieces come with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Made in Florence, Italy, the Da Vinci chess board measures 60 cm (23.6 in) on each side. Its playing surface combines elm root and white maple veneer beneath a high-gloss lacquer. The natural figure of the elm root gives each board a different pattern.
