The Regal chess pieces have tall, slender profiles, with the most elaborate detailing reserved for the royal pieces. The queen is distinguished by a double coronet, the king by a layered crown, and the knight by bolder carving. The bishop and rook are noticeably simpler, setting off the more elaborate pieces.

Handcrafted in India from lacquered ebony and lacquered boxwood, the pieces have a smooth, reflective finish and a strong contrast between the two sides.

With a king height of 4.4 in, the pieces are weighted for steady handling during play. The king base diameter is 4.7 cm (1.85 in), and the pawn base diameter is 3.5 cm (1.38 in). These proportions suit 6.0 cm (2.36 in) squares well, leaving comfortable spacing between neighbouring pieces. Additional queens are included, and the pieces come with a Certificate of Authenticity.

For a complete set, pair them with one of our large chess boards. The Da Vinci provides a more formal setting, while the deeper tones and varied walnut-root figure of the Siena make for a warmer pairing.
