Wood combinations

The Dalí chess pieces reinterpret traditional forms with ring-like detailing, layered bases, and full, rounded profiles. Handcrafted in India, they are available in two combinations: lacquered boxwood with lacquered ebony, and lacquered boxwood with lacquered padauk.

The knight has a flowing carved mane, while the bishop, queen, and king keep more familiar silhouettes. In both versions, the lacquered finish creates a smooth, reflective surface and a clear contrast between the two sides.

With a king height of 4.4 in, the pieces are weighted for steady handling during play. The king base diameter is 4.5 cm (1.77 in), and the pawn base diameter is 3.3 cm (1.30 in). These proportions work well on square sizes from 5.5 cm to 6.0 cm (2.17–2.36 in), depending on whether a slightly denser or more open layout is preferred. Additional queens are included, and the pieces come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
