The Venezia chess board is handmade in Florence, Italy, from elm root and white maple veneer, with a high-gloss lacquered finish. It measures 51 cm (20.1 in) overall and has 5.0 cm (1.97 in) squares. It suits tournament-size chessmen with a king height of approximately 3.75–4.00 in and pairs particularly well with lacquered pieces.

Each veneer square is inlaid by hand. Swirling patterns and natural knotting create tonal variation across the surface, giving every board a slightly different appearance.
