The Siena chess board is handmade in Florence, Italy, from walnut root and white maple veneer, with a high-gloss lacquered finish.

Each veneer square is inlaid by hand. Rich, irregular patterns run through the walnut root, giving each board a subtly different appearance.

The high-gloss lacquer brings out the deep brown tones and helps protect the veneer during regular use.

The Siena chess board measures 60 cm (23.6 in) overall and has 6.0 cm (2.36 in) squares. It suits club-size chessmen with a king height of approximately 4.25–4.75 in. Both lacquered and unlacquered pieces are suitable, though lacquered pieces echo the board’s glossy finish.
