The Regal chess pieces have a strongly vertical profile and a more elaborate treatment of the royal pieces than in more conventional patterns. Both the king and queen feature unusually elaborate upper sections, with the queen distinguished in particular by a double coronet. The layered king’s crown gives the set a clear visual centre, while the knight adds a bolder carved presence without disrupting the overall balance.

Handcrafted in India from lacquered ebony and lacquered boxwood, the pieces have a smooth, reflective finish that sharpens the contrast between the two sides. The bishop and rook are more restrained in form, allowing the stronger treatment of the king, queen, and knight to define the character of the set without making it feel overly ornate.

With a king height of 4.4 in, the pieces are weighted for steady handling during play. The king base diameter is 4.7 cm (1.85 in), and the pawn base diameter is 3.5 cm (1.38 in). These proportions suit 6.0 cm (2.36 in) squares well, leaving comfortable spacing between neighbouring pieces. Additional queens are included, and the pieces come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
