The Galileo chess board is a free‑standing design handcrafted by Italian master artisans in Florence, Italy. Raised on integrated legs, the board is intended to stand independently on a table surface rather than sit flush against it.
The dark squares are made from elm, while maple is used for the lighter squares. A layered frame and rounded legs give the board a defined, architectural structure while also providing stability during play. The added height created by the legs improves ergonomics, particularly when the playing table is lower than standard height.
The Galileo chess board is compatible with chessmen featuring a King base diameter of approximately 4.0–4.6 cm (1.6–1.8 in). Within the Design Chess collection, this includes the Earl and Vulcan tournament‑size series.
