The Siena is a large chessboard made from walnut root veneer and finished with a high‑gloss lacquer. The board measures 60.0 cm (23.6 in) overall and features 6.0 cm (2.36 in) squares, making it suitable for use with club‑size chessmen.

The veneer squares are individually inlaid by hand. Walnut root is selected for its dense grain structure and naturally varied patterning, giving each board a distinct surface character. No two boards are identical, though the overall balance remains consistent.

The lacquered finish enhances surface clarity and protects the veneer during regular use. Deep brown colour tones provide measured contrast with both light and dark pieces, allowing the chessmen to remain visually legible without competing with the board itself.

In terms of scale, the Siena pairs naturally with chessmen featuring a King height of approximately 4.25–4.75 inches. Lacquered sets complement the board’s surface treatment particularly well, though non‑lacquered pieces remain equally suitable.
